Dr. McIlwraith

Dr. C. Wayne McIlwraith, BVSc, (DVM), PhD, FRCVS,DSc, Dr.med vet (hc), Dipl.ACVS is a professor of surgery, the director of orthopaedic research, and the Barbara Cox Anthony Endowed University Chair in Orthopaedics at Colorado State University (CSU). His research interests are in equine orthopedic surgery and joint disease. Dr. McIlwraith received his veterinary degree (BVSc) from Massy University in New Zealand. He completed his MS and PhD degrees in joint disease research at Purdue University. Dr. McIlwraith became a diplomate of the ACVS in surgery in 1979, the year he joined the faculty at CSU. He became a full professor in 1986. He received the Dr. med vet (h.c.) degree from the University of Vienna in 1995, and received a Doctor of Science degree from Purdue in 2001. He is past president of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), and he consults worldwide as an equine orthopedic surgeon. He has authored four veterinary text books on surgery and joint disease, has authored or co-authored more than 250 refereed publications and text book chapters, and has presented at more than 350 seminars internationally. Dr. McIlwraith also sits on the board for The Horse magazine in an advisory capacity.
